Tax Collections
The Tax Collections Department is responsible for the collection of taxes on personal property and real estate.The department also assist in answering tax and billing related questions for the residents of Hoke County. Active duty Military residents are still required to bring in their most recent LES for tax exemptions.  

Effective July 1, 2015

Hoke County will no longer issue Privilege Licenses to most businesses. On May 29, 2014, the North Carolina General Assembly repealed the Privilege Licenses Tax.  However, businesses are still required to obtain a Privilege License if your business sells beer or wine.  General Statue 105-113.78 authorizes Hoke County to collect the applicable local beer and wine tax each year.  Please contact the tax collections department if you are required to obtain such licensing.

New Deed Registration Requirements

Effective August 1, 2014 Hoke County requires the Register of Deeds of Hoke County not to accept any deed transferring real property unless the Tax Collector has certified that no delinquent taxes are due. Deeds must be brought to the tax office to obtain the required stamps and signatures.

2015 Tax Bill Information

Hoke County 2015 tax bills are billed during the month of July 2015. If you receive a tax bill and you make payments to your mortgage company, please note that the bill statement received is for informational purposes only. Most mortgage companies now engage in electronic data submission and resubmission of county tax bills. Taxes are due September 1, 2015, and can be paid up until January 5, 2016 without any interest added to the current tax bill. Interest starts January 6, 2016. Payments received by Aug 31, 2015, receive a 2% discount. 
To ensure that taxes are paid by the January 5, 2016 deadline, taxpayers may start making payments now. Taxpayers may make partial payment of any amount; however, to avoid late penalties, the full amount due must be paid by January 5, 2016. If paying by mail, please remember to include account information in the memo section of the check.
